Managing Interactively: Executing Business Strategy, Improving Communication, and Creating a Knowledge-Sharing Culture
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Trade (12 December, 2000)
Author: Mary E. Boone
Average review score:

Packed with mind-expanding ideas
Speaking as a corporate communication professional, I can honestly say this is the most stimulating business book I've read. The premise is that organization leaders must go beyond simply seeking buy-in from their employees to a more iterative, interactive (and, ultimately, much more inspiring and effective) process of continually reinventing the organization. This argument is supported with great examples and enough detail to be actionable.

Highly recommended.
Mary Boone has authored a wonderful resource for implementing a knowledge-sharing culture in the Enterprise. Things to pay special attention to in the book include the ten key competencies for mastering new methods of communication and management, her insightful analysis of trends and obstactles affecting corporate communication, and the way she uses interviews with CEOs and executives to show you how others have implemented effective collaborative strategies.

On the lighter side of things, read her story about "George" in the "Get Over Yourself" chapter. She uses this story to point out how personality differences can be a show stopper to implementing innovation and promoting creativity. Furthermore, she explains how collaborative technologies can help bypass some of these differences.

Moctezuma's Mexico: Visions of the Aztec World
Published in Paperback by University Press of Colorado (July, 2003)
Authors: David Carrasco, Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, Scott Sessions, and Elizabeth Hill Boone
Average review score:

Superb Illustrations of Aztec Life
This is a splendid book detailing life in Mexico before the conquest by the Spaniards. Beginning with the inside covers the book is rich in pictoral description. The endpapers are beautiful color reproductions of Diego Rivera's "The Great City of Tenochtitlan", a lavish tribute mural of Aztec life that adorns the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. The color is magnificent throughout the book and includes many artifacts left from the ancient Aztecs. The book also includes a great little glossary that includes a pronunciation guide to Nahuatl terms. The glossary serves as a fine introduction to the Nahuatl Language and it's phonetics. Although the authors and contributors are scholars, the book is easy to read for the average person interested in archaeology and Pre-Columbian life in Mexico. The color plates are some of the finest and include rare glimpses into Codex's that are housed in museums. A magnificent book to use as reference. The book is also a great source of information for further research as it includes a selected bibliography. An excellent view of Aztec life, it compliments any personal library. If you love the Art of Pre-Columbian Mexico this book is also a source of inspiration.

Well-written but not too dry or scholarly, with great photos
Developed by four distinguished Mesoamerican scholars for an exhibit at the Denver Museum of Natural History (1992 - 1993). Great photographs of artifacts (jade masks, human skulls, sculptures), buildings and manuscripts. Well-written (not dry or too scholarly). It's been on my coffee table for years but I never tire of looking at it.

Murdered Dreams
Published in Paperback by TRavLo Books (August, 2001)
Author: Lola Scales Boone
Average review score:

Murdered Dreams
Classic whodunit. Intrigue and suspense set a quaint southern town blazing with murder and deceit. The plot is refreshing. Characters are well-rounded with diverse conflicts and personalities. The main character, Talbert Micheals is jagged around the edges after thirteen years in prison. Lola Scales Boone's protrayal of this multi-faceted character is writing at its finest. A must read for those of us who love a climatic ending with a surprizing twist.

Success the first time!
Murdered Dreams is proof-positive that words are powerful! This mystery thriller has an excellent plot development that climaxes and concludes with unexpected and delightful twists. One of the most interesting characters Big Red winds in and out of the storyline like a golden thread which proves its worth when accented by a colorful palet. The use of the familiar by the author proves the immeasurable value of life lessons. The story and characters are so real that anyone can relate. Gone are the days of the "macho, macho man" as two brothers exhibit genuine love for each other despite difficult circumstances. Love, family, tenacity, repentance and "AMAZING" grace are the words of the day when it comes to this novel. Congratulations Lola Scales Boone! Job well done!

Prophet Annie: Being the Recently Discovered Memoir of Annie Pinkerton Boone Newcastle Dearborn, Prophet and Seer
Published in Paperback by Avon (March, 1999)
Authors: Ellen Recknor and Ellen Reknor
Average review score:

Tears, cheers, and a heart as big as the west
When was the last time you read a book about a character who made you want to stand up and cheer? LOUDLY. Annie is that sort of book. The well-documented hilarity in this book is one thing, but the warmth and humanity beneath the wise-cracking surface is what make Annie so special. Read this book.

Humorous supernatural western romance
Harriet Klausner

By 1881, Annie Pinkerton Boone Newcastle has buried two husbands. Her first spouse accidentally died just after they married when a mule kicked him in the head. On their wedding night, her second spouse, the elderly Jonas, passed away in bed. Her sum of married life is less than twenty-four hours. However, the twenty-two years old widow inherits an oddity. Jonas now "lives" inside Annie's head. He provides her with sermons that he orders she pass on to the world even as he demands his husbandry rights in bed.

Annie becomes a renowned psychic, traveling with the unparalell likes of PT Barnum. Her reputation grows as PROPHET ANNIE's predictions start to occur. However, Jonas' ability to forecast the future fails to keep Annie safe from an outlaw gang that abducts her.

For over the first 80 percent of PROPHET ANNIE treats the audience to one of the most engaging, brilliant, and unique western novels to come along in years. However, the last forty to fifty pages make an abrupt U-turn from a stupendous satire into a western romance. Honestly, the ending is well written and even interesting in its own right. However, in the context of what occurred before, the final pages leave readers dissatisfied. No one will relish the defanging of the previously precocious outspoken Annie while turning the soul of the book, the perverted Jonas, into a ghostly eunuch. Still, in her third novel, Spur award winner Ellen Recknor proves that she is a talent to be reckoned with, hopefully by returning Jonas inside the body of another individual.

Albucius
Published in Hardcover by Lapis Press (January, 1993)
Authors: Pascal Quignard and Bruce Boone
Average review score:

Distortions in the Classical Mirror
Pascal Quignard's reconstruction of life and works of Roman novelist Albucius severely disturbs confidence in our "modernity" and our courage as spectators to 'all that is human." Its aggressive brief 'stories' and still more aggressive commentary on our expectations place even a mature reader back to some fearful beginning of experience. This is an uncommon book in form, and substance, by an uncommon and learned novelist and critic of present and past fictional norms.

Away from It All.

Author: Dorothy Boone. Kidney
Average review score:

Best Book!
This was one of the best books I have ever read! Even though it was a little old it was great. I think I liked it even more because it was true and I had been to the places described and could follow it on the map. This was a great book that I would read over again and again!

The Aztec World (Exploring the Ancient World)
Published in Hardcover by Smithsonian Institution Press (May, 1995)
Authors: Elizabeth Hill Boone and Jeremy A. Sabloff
Average review score:

An excellent brief overview of Aztec civilization
This is an admirable example of how to introduce non-experts to an ancient culture without being pedantic or boring. In one hundred and fifty pages, Boone gives us a very readable summary of Aztec history, culture, religion, economics, and politics. While she describes the horrors of human sacrifice, she also lets us see the more positive sides of Aztec life, including the glory of Tenochtitlan. She helps us to understand how a small number of Spaniards brought down the empire. The book is well illustrated in color.

Like the Records Listings and Photos
I love to hunt elk, deer and antelope and wrote the book Colorado's Biggest Bucks and Bulls, so I found this book very helpful when including B&C big game from Colorado in my book listings and index. The field photographs are excellent and the design is clever. I am especially fond of the records listings because it helps me plan my future hunts.
